Tool

It`s finally official Jason Akermanis is a tool. To come out and bag a bloke who has played 200 games on the eve of that achievement shows how self indulgent he is. If he has an opinion on his ex teammates that is fine but to publicly degrade them is a disgrace. This bloke has made his living out of being controversial but i think these days in the football world he is irrelevant and should be ignored. By the way that good ordinary player that he spoke about didn`t have a bad game in his 200th. Absolute TOOL!

Time on the Couch

After watching the footy on the weekend there is a couple of clubs that might be having sessions with the sports psychologists this week. Starting with the Collingwood/Adelaide game where at the 8 minute mark of the last quarter the crows led by 23 pts. Fast forward 20 minutes to the end of the game and the pies finish up winning by 43 pts after piling on 11.1 to 0.1 HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN? Over in the west halfway through the 3rd quarter the Western Bulldogs after a slow start have closed the margin to 23 pts. From then on the West Coast Eagles run riot and win the game by 125 pts culminating in the last quarter scores of 10.4 to 0.00 again HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN? It can`t be as simple as not getting their hands on the ball what will need to be addressed is what was going through the players heads at the time. If these things are not addressed now they are scars that will take a very long time to heal.

Toughness in 2011

After watching the footy on the weekend the players deserve the pay increase that they are after from the TV rights deal. We hear people saying these days that the AFL are turning the sport into netball and that the players are not as tough as what they were in the old days. After watching the footy on Friday night and seeing Alan Toovey going back with the flight of the ball and being taken off on a stretcher i thought to myself when was the last time a player pulled out of a contest like that? There is now more contested footy, more tackling and more contests which brings the spectators through the gate and watching it on TV. There are not too many occupations in the world where you put yourself in front of 110 kgs knowing that you could get hurt and end up in hospital but if you don`t you won`t be employed for long. For that reason alone they deserve to be well rewarded.
